Artist of the moment…..Lynn Chadwick

Lynn Chadwick was an internationally renowned sculptor born in London, England in the year 1914.  After looking at the wonderful style of this artist I have given the term ” midevil modernism” to his style. Many works are actually installed in the grounds of castles! Chadwick’s style  is a wonderful mix of the figure brought into a very abstract shape that gives these works of bronze and/ or steel an incredible sense of movement. The artist began his figurative works made with metals in the 1940s.

Price range information: Works range from $10,000 to $750,000.

For his collegiate education Chadwick attended Merchant Taylors’ School where he studied architecture. The artist was trained in both watercolour and oils.

In this clip you might recognize a work from the gallery titled ” Ace of Diamonds.” The piece actually moves when the wind is strong enough to propel it. Below a time lapse photography video always us to see what happens when the wind blows!

In this clip from his grandson we take a short visit to the study of Lynn Chadwick. Many works are shown:

In this clip from we view a work titled “Winged Figure ” from 2012:

The artist was a participant in the Venice Biennale in the year 1952.

Lynn Chadwick also served time in the Royal Navy.

Has had his work shown at the Tate Britain of London.

Chadwick was married three times during his life.

Lynn Chadwick passed away in 2003.

Artist of the moment…….Dhananjay Singh

Dhananjay Singh was born in Hajipur, Bihar, India in the year 1977. This region is located in the north of India. For his artistic education Singh attended the Faculty of Visual Arts of Banaras Hindu University. The artist also earned a master’s degree from the University Baroda.

Dhananjay Singh’s favorite subject is the tree.

The artist works with sculpture and also painting. Many paintings are executed with watercolor on paper.

Many sculptures are made of bronze and either stainless steel wire or copper wire.

Price range information: Works range from $4,000 to $50,000.

I love the way the artist has merged the figure and the tree into one style uniquely his own! It makes sense as the way a branch tapers it reminds me of the same taper you see on the human arm or leg.

Artist of the moment…..Robert Genn

I have written about this artist before as I am a subscriber to his twice weekly newsletter. This artist has been on line since the 1990s and has had his notes made into books for us to enjoy!

I opened the latest newsletter and Mr. Genn tells us he has pancreatic cancer and around one year to live.

This artist is a national treasure of Canada and one of my favorite Impressionistic painters who works just as well with acrylics as with oils.

Robert Genn was born in 1936.

Please make sure and check out his website and his newsletter is free and comes twice a week.  Since has only one year left or so I am not for sure how long he will continue to write:

In this great video from Robert Genn he talks about the privilege of being an artist:

I wish Robert Genn all the best and hope some luck comes his way and he may paint his way to 100 years of age.

Artist of the moment…….Bruno Giorgi

Bruno Giorgi was born in Mocao which is very close to Sao Paulo, Brazil in the year 1905. The artist moved with his family when he was eight old to Rome, Italy. Despite this Giorgi’s work is heavily influenced by characters of his native country of Brazil. Giorgi was renowned for his sculptures which started rather tight and constricted and ended up loose and highly stylized.

Many sculptures were done with marble, bronze, or steel.

The artist was on outspoken political activist. Whilst in Italy he helped spread some revolt against the Facist government. This angered the government and the artist was sent to jail and eventually deported back to Brazil.

In this clip we take a closer look at one of Bruno Giorgi’s more abstract works:

Eventually Giorgi would move to Paris, France and study at La Grande Chaumiere. Giorgi then moved back to Brazil.

Price range information: Works range from $5,000 to $50,000.
