As a young painter Chen Zhifo went to Japan and was heavily influenced by the Japanese style of art. The artist worked as a graphics designer and didn’t start working with his favorite subjects, birds and flowers, until he was nearly 40 years old.
Felix Ziem was a French artist born in the year 1821 in Buene, Cote D’Or, Burgundy, France. Ziem was a brilliant painter of landscape and marine images. Some of his most renown work was done in Venice, Italy. Ziem is associated with the French Barbizon style of painting. The landscapes he painted most were of the Venice and the French countryside, in particular the Burgundy region where the artist was raised.
For his collegiate education Felix Ziem studied architecture in Dijon, France.
Ziem worked as an architect before turning to art.
First showed his art at the Paris Salon in 1849. After this he was financially set as an artist.
Like other very successful artists including John Singer Sargent, Ziem was avid art collector and enjoyed helping up and coming or struggling artists by purchasing their work.
In England you might be knighted for your contributions to the art world, in France you are asked to join the Chevalier of the Legion of Honor.
The artist passed away in 1911 at the age of 90 years old.

Ziem was a remarkable painter of light! I enjoy his scenes that are painted during dusk with very limited light and interesting silhouette shapes. I really enjoy paintings of Venice and other artists who do a great job at painting it include John Singer Sargent and Thomas Pradzynski.
Davidee Saumik was an Inuit artist born in 1925. Saumik was a carver who enjoyed producing mother and child works in addition to works with animals. Sometimes the roles are reversed. Instead of a hunter chasing a muskox, the muskox has captured the hunter. Like many Inuit artists, humor is part of their theme! Saumik also enjoyed working with other traditional Inuit characters including the shaman and drum dancers.
Saumik lived in the Inukjuak, Nunavut Territory, Canada region.
The artist was a sculptor and worked in stone.

Kiyoshi Saito was a world famous painter and printmaker born in Japan in the year 1907 in Aizubange, Fukushima. Saito was part of the sosaku-hanga movement. This was the process in which artists became much more expressive in their paintings. This period of time stressed the artist as more important than any thing else.
Saito was renown for his paintings of the Japanese landscape and for his floral works.
The artist participated in a biennale that took place in Brazil. Saito was one of the first Japanese artists to win there.
Kiyoshi Saito passed away in 1997 at the age of 90 years old.

George Barris was the last photographer to shoot Marilyn Monroe one month before she died they had their last shoot. George Barris was born in New York City in the year 1928. Barris was involved in World War 2 as a photographer for the United States Army.
Barris was a key part of the public campaigns of the Army.

In this clip we visit George Barris and another photographer as they recount their encounters with Marilyn Monroe. Barris even shows us the camera he used during the famed last shoot of Santa Monica Beach:
George Barris took his last image of Marilyn in July of 1962. Marilyn Monroe would die in August of 1962.
After his discharge from the Army the artist headed for Hollywood. He was able to meet Marilyn during the filming of the movie The Seven Year Itch. After working as colleagues the two remained friends for the rest of their lives.
A well acclaimed shoot was his work with the movie star Elizabeth Taylor as she was shooting the movie Cleopatra.
Barris spent two decades living in Paris, France. He now makes his home in California.
