Artist of the moment……Street Artist PaoPao

Pao or PaoPao is a former street artist who has made it big as a commercial artist. Pao Bordino was born in the year 1977 in Milan, Italy.  With a very playful and cartoon approach the artist is able to transform ordinary items like a utility box into Sponge Bob! Also interesting is the way he paints according to his paintings environment. What you might have thought was just an ordinary bush, ends up being hair. A main subject for Pao is penguins.

As an added note, the item he paints on is called a bollard, its used to stop cars from going into places where it supposed to be only pedestrians. This is his base for most of his penguin work.

Pao is based out of Milan, Italy.

The artist has his art on everything from cups to clothes! What a fun expressionist style he has created.

In this clip a brief more works of Pao:

In this clip we see Pao working on location at a Street Artist Museum located in Torino, Italy.

The artist founded a collective in 2005. This group works on his large amount of commercial work.

Here is a link to the website of Pao. Pages are in Italian and English. The artist sure brings the word “fun” to street art!

Artist of the moment…….Tadashige Ono

Tadashige Ono was an internationally collected artist born in Tokyo, Japan in the year 1909. Tadashige Ono was a prolific woodblock and printmaking artist with his main subject being rural or urban landscapes. Ono was part of a movement in Japan called the Sosaku-Hanga movement that put the artist in the forefront of paintings. Rather than try to create a balance and harmony, for the first time artists were given the freedom just to create!

Before he became famous for his images of the landscape Tadashige Ono was focused on creating art that represented the everyday laborer such as farmers or other members of the working class.

For his artistic education Ono attended the Hongo Art Institute.

Tadashige Ono published several books showcasing his woodblock art.

Over his lifetime the artist taught at many colleges including the Tokyo University of Fine Arts.

Tadashige Ono passed away in 1990 at the age of 81 years old.

In this clip a great montage of works by Tadashige Ono. Many works include Ono’s most recognized subject, the urban landscape.

Artist of the moment……..Photographer Annie Leibovitz

Annie Leibovitz is a world famous photographer renown for her images of celebrities. Annie Leibovitz was born in Waterbury, Connecticut in the year 1949. Her father was part of the United States Air Force. Growing up Leibovitz lived in many exciting locales and began to take photographs of these locations. The first foreign country that Leibovitz shot was the Phillipines.

For her artistic education Leibotvitz attended the San Francisco Art Institute but studied painting rather than photography.

After finishing college and seeing more of the world the artist found employment with Rolling Stone magazine. Leibovitz also served as an official photographer for the band the Rolling Stones.

In the gallery above I hope you recognize some clever visual artists Andy Warhol and Christo, of the husband and wife team. The artist is wrapped as so much of their subject was wrapped in some sort of clothing. Leibovitz will photograph some item that the public might recognize as part of the celebrity, for instance Elvis Presley’s Harley Davidson motorcycle or the dark room of one of America’s most celebrated photographers, Ansel Adams. For her portraiture works Leibovitz tries to capture what the person does rather than who they appear to be on the outside.

In this clip many photographs taken by Annie Leibovitz over her career:

As a tennis fan I enjoyed this! A brief clip showing Leibovitz working with husband and wife team Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi. The viewer can see how meticulous Leibovitz is about he work.

One famous celebrity couple shot included Yoko Ono and John Lennon. The image shows Yoko Ono wrapped in clothes with John Lennon on top of her nude and kissing her. This image has been re-shot with various celebrities playing the male/ female roles.

Leibovitz worked with the Queen of England.
