Artist of the moment….Elizabeth Murray

Elizabeth Murray was an American artist born in the year 1940 in Chicago, Illinois. She was renown for her uniquely shaped canvases painted with abstract shapes and bold color. Murray is associated with the Neo-Expressionist School of Painting. For her artistic education Elizabeth Murray earned a bachelors of fine arts degree from the Art Institute of Chicago. Murray went to earn a MFA from Mills University located in Oakland, California.

Murray became interested in art as a high school student. A teacher at her school helped form a foundation for Murray in order for her to attend college at the Chicago Art Institute.

In addition to oddly and very uniquely shaped canvases, Murray would join canvases together or place on canvas on top of the another.

Elizabeth Murray’s work is included in prominent museums including the Museum of  Modern Art located in New York City. The Whitney Museum of Art in New York City, and the Art Institute of Chicago.

Member of the American Institute of Arts and Letters.

Elizabeth Murray passed away in 2007 at the age of 66 years old.
