Artist of the moment….Germaine Arnaktauyok

Germaine Arnaktauyok is a contemporary Inuit artist born in Igloolik, Nunavut Territory, Canada in the year 1946. Both of the artist’s parents were professional carvers. Arnaktauyok is one of the best draughtsman of all the Inuit artists. She has produced many works in ink and colour pencil and also lithographs.

For her artistic education Arnaktauyok attended the University of Manitoba and Algonquin College. She studied commercial art.

Sold a painting at the age of eleven years old.

The artist has worked with the Canadian government on many occasions receiving commissioned assignments dealing with the Inuit peoples. One commission dealt with designing a coin marking the official recognition of the Nunavut Territory.
