Artist of the moment….Levi Qumaluk

Levi Qumaluk is a master artist and a great example of how art can be used to uplift and improve one’s quality of life. Levi Qumaluk was born in the Povungnituk, Nunavut Territory, Canada in the year 1919. His theme is like many of his counterparts, a continuing saga of the struggle of living in such a harsh and cold environment.

One of six children all brothers. All ended up making income from their art. Levi was the only carver AND printmaker. The artist started being included into the annual print collection beginning in 1979.

Levi Qumaluk was renown for his sculpture work and is considered by many to be an Arctic master artist.

The artist passed away in 1997 at the age of  78 years old.
