Paul Kavik is one of the best Inuit sculptors working today. Paul Kavik was born and raised in the Sanikiluaq, Nunavet Territory, Canada in 1948. Kavik is renown for his work with bears.
His father Davidee was also a well known sculptor born circa 1915. Below is an example his work with the face and figure.
Its very interesting to see the level or realism depicted in Kavik’s work with the face. Where as most Inuit sculptors emphasize movement and positive and negative spaces, Kavik also works seems to represent an artist that had studied at a major university or academy of study.
Part of major exhibitions in the United States, Canada, and Germany.
