Artist of the moment…..Photographer Horst P. Horst

Horst P. Horst was born in what is now Saxony- Anhelt, Germany in the year 1906. Horst was renown for capturing the figure in black and white film. With both males and females he used the body more as a landscape. Horst had a great eye for dynamic shapes and this is most evident in his works with the male body called triangles. He has the model contort his body to create various triangular shapes in the body.

He studied art in Hamburg, Germany and left for Paris to study with Le Corbusier, the famous architect.

Whilst in Paris he met a rich photographer that worked for Vogue magazine. Horst became his assistant.  In less than 2 years time he would publish his first photographs in Vogue magazine.

Also had a solo exhibition in 1932 that made him a household name.

When I look at the photographs of female dancers I am reminded of the artist Cathy Daley. Below is a great example of her signature style.
