Artist of the moment….Jacob Irkok

Jacob Irkok was born in the Arviat, Nunavet Territory of Canada in the year 1937. I think his sculptures depicting caribou are the best of the Inuits. The artist is able to give life and movement with his dynamic and flowing line work.

Also interesting is how the artist uses multiple figures. Not combined as we saw with many of the Tunnillie artists. Each figure is a great stand alone work of art.

Worked with stone and antlers as his chosen mediums.

Had a wife named Eulalie and son Jack that were artists, sorry no pictures!

Irkok passed away in 2009 at the age of 72.

Price range information: Most works priced between $1,000 and $4,000.
