Michael Massie is a highly sought after Inuit artist. The artist has a wonderful mixed heritage background of both the Inuit culture, the Metis culture, and Scottish. Michael Massie was born in the year 1962 in Happy Valley Goose Bay, Labrador, Canada. His father was a fireman. After seeing the tough life his father led, Massie was determined to become an artist.
Like many of us fellow artists, Massie drew inspiration from the comic strips he saw like Richie Rich. Massie would copy the figures and even the captions. If you are a young artist you should copy from the master cartoonists of the past such as Disney’s Nine Old Men. Their drawing skills were far superior that the art represented into todays cartoons such as Southpark.

For his collegiate studies Massie attended the College of the North Atlantic in Newfoundland, Canada. Massie studied commercial art and also visual arts. Massie also attended the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design earning a bachelor’s degree in jewelry. He loved the smell of feel of working with metal. It was during his college years Massie became more involved with his Inuit background.
