Alexander Archipenko was a fantastic sculptor who worked in very modern manner. Archipenko was born in Kyiv, Ukraine, Russian Empire in the year 1887. The artist attended an arts school in Kyiv whilst in his late teens. He then was a studio assistant to a well known painter of the region. Archipenko then had a show with another artist who went on to become well known for his impressionist paintings named Alexander Bogomazov. Both artists took a very modern approach to art. Here is an example of Bogomazov’s style. 
The artist then took off for Moscow and in 1908 for Paris and enrolled in the well known Ecole des Beaux Arts. Archipenko thought the school was too technique based and quit the school. He was able to meet other Parisian artists who thought the same way and was able to open his own atelier in 1912. He started to show his work and had his first solo exhibition in Germany in 1912. Archipenko had several works in the Armory Exhibition of Modern Art in 1913. This show was the first time American art enthusiasts saw first hand the art trends catchinv on in europe like Cubism or Futurism. The artist decided to move to Nice, France in 1914. He remained in Italy until 1922 when he moved to Berlin, Germany and again opened an atelier.
In 1923 the artist decided to emigrate to the United States. He became a citizen in 1929.
Elected to American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1962.
Along with Joseph Csaky brought Picasso’s idea of Cubism to a three dimensional form.
The artist passed away in New York city at the age of 76 years old in 1964.
I enjoy the artist for like Rodin he was able to change the way people thought about not only the nude, but modern art. He is extremely important for not many sculptors used Cubism as a form of expression, though many painters tried the idea.
Price range information: Bronze sculptures can range from the low six figures to $2 million dollars. Lithographs are the most affordable ranging from $3,000 to $10,000. Oils can also range from the low six figures to upwards of $1.5 million dollars.
