ART at its best……Charity Auctions for Great Causes…..Richard Schmid Art Auction….Auction for Aids…

Two great events are coming up soon, I had better let you know now so that you can save up some dollars. Not only support great community ideas, but also support nationally and internationally collected artists. One great aspect the internet has brought to the art world, the ability to vote and check out so many auction events.

The Richard Schmid Art Auction has been going on for nearly two decades time. It takes place just outside of Fort Collins, Colorado. I have been attending for 5 years now and have been able to meet Putney painters Richard Schmid, Nancy Guzik, Molly Schmid, and Kathy Anderson. It always takes place the first Sunday in September. Rides for the kids, so much food you can eat all day long, and live music. The event takes place on a ranchers land that was left undisturbed by the fires so the event will take place as planned.

You can bid for artwork online and by phone. Richard Schmid usually has at least two works for sale in the event. Its always very exciting when his work comes up as it can sell for tens of thousands of dollars and still be a bargain!

I was able to find a brief video from a previous auction.

The second event and auction you should check out deals with some artists I have profiled on the site, Sue Averell and Rex Ray. The cause is for Aids. The auction goes until September the 7th 2012.

The event is held in San Francisco Friday September 14  2012.   ART FOR AIDS.  Even the highly collected photographer Jock Sturges has a photo included in the auction. The abstract artist Ross Bleckner has also entered a piece.  Many of the artists are from California and known by local collectors. The art is of very high quality.

The auction will have one hundred twenty five pieces up for sale. Most pieces have a buy it now! option.

Good luck with your bid!

Artist of the moment….Cuban artist Jose Bedia Valdes….

The artist was born in January of 1959 in Havana, Cuba.

The artist went thru many years of schooling, high school and college ages, in Havana as well. In 1991 he emigrated to Mexico.  In 1993 he moved to the United States. He now lives and works out of Miami, Florida.

The artist served in the Cuban military, living in Angola. He was able to introduce a very primative feel to his artwork after this experience.

Bedia has worked in many mediums including collage, acrylics, ink, pastel, oils, and chalk.

The artist has been in many international group shows from Beijing to Venice. The artist won a Guggenheim Fellowship award in 1993.

low price range: $5,000

high price range: $18,000

I enjoy this artist for his expressionistic quality of his work. A cross between the cave paintings found in Lascaux, France and the Neo-Expressionist painter Jean-Michel Basquiat. The line work  is simple, but communicate well to the viewer. Also interesting is the use of dark vs. light shapes.

Part of many musuem collections including the Tampa Bay Museum of Art, Miami Art Museum, and Los Angeles Country Museum of Art.
