Artists of summer…. Tom Blackwell…..

this artist is well known for his large scale works of motorcycles using both oils and sometimes acrylics on paper. Some of the works are very large having sizes 4 by 6 foot for many of his motorcycles.

The artist was born in Chicago in 1938. Had a big breakthrough in 1961 with a show at the Roy Parsons Gallery in Los Angeles.

He started out as an abstract painter influenced by the Pop Art movement. He started out painting metal and glass objects mainly in airplanes and motorcycles but later in storefronts.

From a technical standpoint reflections are very difficult to paint as you have whats in front of you, whats reflected in the window, and the objects in front of and surrounding the window.

I enjoy the technical skill and great compositions of this artist!
