Artist of the moment….Larry Rivers…

This guy was an artists artist.  For me being an artist is about taking whats is available and making it your own. This man not only was a great painter, but also a fine musician and actor.  He was born in 1923 in New York to Russian Jewish parents. He even studied at Juilliard School of Music with Miles Davis and remained a close friend of the jazz singer until his death in 1951.

He studied with famed artist teacher Hans Hoffman in the 1940s. In the 1950s he became a pop artist and was one of 11 New York City Painters to have a show at the Terrain Gallery.

The artist lived with other artists in Hotel Chelsea in the 1960s. Also living in the location were Bob Dylan,Janis Joplin, Len Cohen, Arthur Clarke, and Sid Vicious.

He traveled to Africa a couple of times in the 60s and was nearly killed for being a suspected mercenary.

The artist passed away in 2002.

A brief 28 minute interview about the artist made in 1978.

Don’t stop learning! And also learn as many different crafts and mediums as possible. Visual audio always learn!
