Artist of the moment… Steven Sorman…

this artist is mid career and creating some dynamic abstract pieces with loads of movement and interesting color patterns. He was born in 1948 in Minnesota and earned his BFA at the Univestiy of Minnesota.  He came to prominence in the 1970s with his mixed media pieces that made his work a combination of Rauchenberg with his flat color, Ellsworth Kelly for his color choices, and Robert Motherwell in his design.

The artist enjoys working in very thin translucent paint similar to watercolor which he sometimes spatters and also enjoys thickly painted passages to add texture to his work.

This youtube clip is about a painting made by the artist that is 9 by 39 foot long.

This artist is great to learn from as he borrows from all of his past experiences to always lead in a new direction. Especially interesting is his varied ways of applying the texture and paint, its always varied, but not too much of one thing.
