LM7’s style can be described as John James Audubon with a modernist touch. LM7’s art is a wonderful blend of abstraction and color that show birds in constant motion. Another artist working with the same subject matter in a similar style is the painter Frank Gonzales.

What a great mix of styles that composed this artist’s work. I can see glimpses of Impressionism, Cubism, and Expressionist styles in his art.

I enjoy the style of this Brazilian artist. Though people in the art world know about the Pandolpho Twins, Os Gemeos  from Brazil, other artists such as Ricardo AKN do a great job depicting the figure in a modernist style. The artist has been very successful as a commercial artist working with companies including Pepsi, Ellus, and Nike.

Artist of the moment…….Bruno Giorgi

Bruno Giorgi was born in Mocao which is very close to Sao Paulo, Brazil in the year 1905. The artist moved with his family when he was eight old to Rome, Italy. Despite this Giorgi’s work is heavily influenced by characters of his native country of Brazil. Giorgi was renowned for his sculptures which started rather tight and constricted and ended up loose and highly stylized.

Many sculptures were done with marble, bronze, or steel.

The artist was on outspoken political activist. Whilst in Italy he helped spread some revolt against the Facist government. This angered the government and the artist was sent to jail and eventually deported back to Brazil.

In this clip we take a closer look at one of Bruno Giorgi’s more abstract works:

Eventually Giorgi would move to Paris, France and study at La Grande Chaumiere. Giorgi then moved back to Brazil.

Artist of the moment…..Ernest Neto

Ernest Neto was born in Rio De Janiero, Brazil in the year 1964. Neto works as a painter, sculptor, and photographer. For sculpting he uses a variety of materials but is renown for his use of soft sculptures. These are made with a fabric material that Neto fills with other items including spices. Too bad SMELLAVISION doesn’t exist, the dream of chef tv host Emeril LaGasse, some of the very large sculptures by Neto are stuffed with spices.

For his artistic education Neto attended the school of visual arts located in Rio de Janiero, Brazil.

The artist doesn’t mind people touching his artwork. Yikes! His museum size installations are very large in scale and can take up floor space, but he will then create the structure and have it reach the ceiling. In this clip we see a sculpture by Neto made to feel as if the viewer was walking through the inside of an earthworm. Very creative!

First exhibition was in 1988 in Brazil.

First international exhibition was in 1996.

In this clip an interview with the artist discussing his artwork:

Ernest Neto is based out of Rio De Janiero, Brazil.

In this clip a very interesting storyline. Neto is sought after by a running group to create a work of art. He succeeds and his results are unusual. He creates a sort of web that the runners can stretch out in and relax.

Neto represented Brazil at the Venice Biennale in 2003.

Artist of the moment…..Efrain Almeida

Efrain Almeida is an artist from Brazil born in the year 1964 renown for his work with sculptures in wood. Working with umburana  cedar wood Efrain Almeida carves everything from faces, human figures, dogs, even cathedrals which are found in many locales in his native of Brazil,  and whatever else you could imagine. My favorite work in the gallery is that of the hat. To take a highly recognizable visual substance like wood, and make it appear as a fabric, what an amazing technique!

Has been featured in many national publications including the New York Times and ARTnews magazine.

Even the use of his carvings has religious twist. To give thanks for prayers answered parishioners might leave a wood carving at church. Brazil has the highest percentage of Catholics on earth.

Many of the works are done in smaller size of less than 12 inches. Very compact but graceful, similar to many of the Inuit artists.

price range information: Sorry none available.

In this clip, which I think is done in Portuguese, we view  a show by the artist. Many carvings are in fact self portraits of the artist.

In this clip I have no idea what they are saying in Portuguese, but watch the first few seconds and you may see Efrain Almeida in person and see how accurate his carvings are:
